Fake FDA Registration Certificates: What FDA Says

FDA does not issue certificates of registration to food, device, drug or cosmetic facilities, and it does not recognize certificates sold by private companies. Registration is not FDA approval or clearance. A firm that offers an "FDA certificate" is selling something FDA does not provide. You can verify device and drug registrations in FDA's public databases.

What FDA says

  • For food facilities, FDA states it does not issue registration certificates and does not recognize them
  • For devices, FDA states that registration and listing do not mean approval or clearance of the establishment or its devices (21 CFR 807.39)

How to check a registration

  • Devices: FDA Establishment Registration & Device Listing database
  • Drugs: FDA Drug Establishments Current Registration Site
  • Food: registration numbers are confidential by law; ask your supplier for proof from FURLS
